Coronavirus Cancels AAD - Impact on Astanza

Coronavirus Cancels AAD - Impact on Astanza

On Tuesday, March 10, the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) announced that they have canceled their 2020 Annual Meeting scheduled for March 19 - 22 in Denver, Colorado as a precautionary measure related to COVID-19 (coronavirus disease).

Astanza had planned to participate as a guest in the Asclepion booth, where we were going to showcase the Asclepion DermaBlate, the new Asclepion MeDioStar*, and the Asclepion PicoStar*. While we are disappointed by this cancellation, we view it as an appropriate time to provide some information to our customers and prospective customers about the impact of COVID-19 on Astanza’s operations.

We have been receiving several questions about delivery / installation schedules, parts availability, and training. As such, we’ve put together a brief review of Astanza’s areas of operation and how COVID-19 may impact each.

Astanza never drop-ships lasers directly from the manufacturer to a customer for installation. We find it critical for a successful installation that lasers are quality checked in our facility before being sent to a client. This quality control includes a multi-step process of testing and firing the laser, ensuring all parts and accessories are included and making sure the laser has no damage that may have occurred during shipment.

Because we don’t rely on just-in-time inventory or direct shipping of lasers to customers from the manufacturer, we always carry an inventory that is expected to meet our near-term customer needs. You can rest assured that with Astanza, your laser will show up intact, with all parts and accessories, and training will be conducted professionally by a Biomedical Engineer. We currently have no concerns related to COVID-19 regarding the availability of our current line of aesthetic lasers.

Installation and Training
Astanza’s award-winning service and training teams work together to ensure that a client’s installation and training are done during the same visit, and each member of your staff is trained by a degreed Biomedical Engineer, not just a laser technician.

Service and Parts
Unlike some companies in the aesthetic laser industry, Astanza doesn’t use an outside vendor for laser servicing or installation. Each service team member is a full-time Astanza employee and has at least a 4-year Biomedical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering degree. To ensure the safety of our team members and clients, we have reviewed the CDC safety precautions related to COVID-19, are making sure these guidelines are being closely followed, and are taking necessary precautions.

Another critical component of a successful maintenance program is access to parts and supplies. Because it’s crucial to the continued operation of our client’s lasers, we have an ample supply of major components and accessories (including goggles and handpieces) in stock. In addition to a supply room stocked with necessary parts, our service team also carries essential items for onsite repairs. We do not expect to have any issues related to COVID-19 when fulfilling future service / repair requests.

New Look Laser College (NLLC) - March 28 & 29
New Look Laser College, the laser tattoo removal training division of Astanza Laser, brings aspiring and current tattoo removal practitioners to Dallas for a weekend of hands-on and classroom training in order to learn how to operate Q-switched tattoo removal lasers safely. The average class size is between 8 - 12 students, and we treat between 10 - 12 patients throughout the weekend.

With this class being several weeks away, we have not made any decisions on the impact that COVID-19 may have on this class. We are currently monitoring the situation closely and will keep those that have registered or are considering coming to Dallas up-to-date with any decisions that we do make. In the meantime, we are enhancing our normal cleaning protocols to ensure a safe environment for students and staff. Please check the status of the March 28-29 course at www.newlooklasercollege.com
