Prisoner Tattoo - laser tattoo removalTransitioning from jail to civilian life is often a struggle for many previously incarcerated individuals. However, non-profits like the Jail Ministry of Elkhart County are providing free tattoo removal for inmates to help them successfully re-enter society.

Elkhart County Jail Ministry’s laser tattoo removal program puts special emphasis on the removal of gang tattoos, tattoos from the wrist down, and tattoos from the neck up. The program is available to all inmates, regardless of religious affiliation, and is free of charge. Ex-inmates and people from the community can also receive treatment at a small fee. Often, an inmate’s tattoos serve as reminders and scars of their past. Removing these regretful marks can excite inmates about what the future may bring and encourage a positive transformation.

One inmate’s life story has been changed by the Elkhart County Jail non-profit tattoo removal program in more ways than he could have imagined. In the video below, the inmate explains that despite his tremendous progress to change who he is on the inside, he still feels set back by his outward appearance, mainly his visible tattoos. Through Elkhart’s laser tattoo removal program, he’s able to erase his past scars and experience optimism for his future. Upon re-entry, he plans on going back to work and enjoying quality time with his family.

Elkhart County Jail received various donations from community members, organizations, and churches to invest in two Astanza Duality lasers. One laser is used to treat inmates inside the jail, and the other is used at a Community Health Center to continue treatment for inmates after release. The Astanza Duality is an advanced Q-switched Nd:YAG laser that uses 1064 nm and 532 nm wavelengths to remove a wide variety of ink colors safely from all skin types. The Duality uses ultra-high peak power for optimal ink shattering and faster fading.

Astanza has partnered with numerous non-profit organizations, like Elkhart County Jail, to help individuals in their communities. These non-profit organizations work to make sure their inmates have the confidence to transition into civilian life.
